Board of Directors
The ASRA Board of Directors is composed of retirees from the University of Ottawa who volunteer their time to manage the affairs of the Association. Their role is to ensure the proper administration of the ASRA and to fulfill the mandates entrusted to it at the Annual General Meeting. The members of the Board of Directors are elected at the AGM.
If you wish to submit your candidacy or volunteer some of your time, contact one of the Board members below.
I am President of the ASRA and have occupied this role since 2008 with great pleasure. I have accepted this responsibility in the hope of improving the living conditions of UO retirees.
I have worked for 36 years at the University of Ottawa, including 13 years as head of Training and Career Development in Human Resources, and 6 years as head of Career Services for students (SASS). I was elected member of the Board of Governors in 2000 and sat on the Board's Executive Committee until I retired in 2006.

Advisor, Information technology
I retired in 2007 from the position of Director of Computing and Communications Services (now Information Technology). My career at the University started in 1989 when the director of the department, Dr. Robert Goguen, recruited me as assistant director, in charge of the computer center. At that time, the university had two mainframe computers and a few labs equipped with minicomputers mainly located in the faculties of engineering and sciences. Most administration, as well as most faculty and student work were done either manually or through terminals distributed throughout the campus. At that time, it was possible to send and receive e-mail communications via a central computer connected to the mainly North American University network. In the early 1990s, we installed a TCP/IP network at the University, along with the cabling necessary to install a telephone network. We were then able to replace the Bell telephone network with a locally maintained system, with enormous savings. Gradually, the administrative systems improved, especially with the implementation of the first integrated student records management system. Other systems followed. But it was the proliferation of microcomputers that really changed the University's computer landscape. The result was the emergence of client support services and student labs distributed to several locations on campus.
I now spend part of my free time working voluntarily for the University's retirees' association. I am also a member and administrator of two choirs, an ambitious cook for my family and friends, outdoors enthusiast and a traveler on my own time. For me, retirement has ushered in a new period of my life, full of discoveries and exciting activities.

Louise Pagé-Valin
Representative for ASRA on the University's Pension Plan Committee
I retired from the University in January 2010 after 31 years.
I started at the University in 1979, in the Registrar's Office, as Manager for Statistics, Convocations, and Course timetables. Those who were at the University at the time will remember that all room allocations were done mostly manually so our office had a grand time finding the correct classrooms for class sizes, and the various reservations required by professors or other users, or final exams, in the gyms or other classrooms as long as there was a space between each student writing an exam (like in pandemic times). We were also responsible for ensuring that the University was able to get all the operating grants it was supposed to, by reporting student enrolments as of certain specific dates. In 1981, I transferred to Institutional Research and Academic Planning, on the second floor of Tabaret Hall, where I was more involved in researching any aspect of the University, from surveying students on their expectations for their university experience, to asking all faculties to report on the professors' teaching load in their various departments, so that negotiations with the unions could be facilitated. Then, in 1989, I was asked to lead the Human Resources Service team, an adventure that lasted until my retirement in 2010, during which time I was supported by a great team.
As representative of the ASRA on the Pension Plan Committee, my role is to ensure that the interests of retired members of the Plan are protected and taken into consideration in the deliberations of the Committee, and ultimately reflected in the recommendations to the Board of Governors.
