Louise Pagé-Valin
Representative for ASRA on the University's Pension Plan Committee
I retired from the University in January 2010 after 31 years.
I started at the University in 1979, in the Registrar's Office, as Manager for Statistics, Convocations, and Course timetables. Those who were at the University at the time will remember that all room allocations were done mostly manually so our office had a grand time finding the correct classrooms for class sizes, and the various reservations required by professors or other users, or final exams, in the gyms or other classrooms as long as there was a space between each student writing an exam (like in pandemic times). We were also responsible for ensuring that the University was able to get all the operating grants it was supposed to, by reporting student enrolments as of certain specific dates. In 1981, I transferred to Institutional Research and Academic Planning, on the second floor of Tabaret Hall, where I was more involved in researching any aspect of the University, from surveying students on their expectations for their university experience, to asking all faculties to report on the professors' teaching load in their various departments, so that negotiations with the unions could be facilitated. Then, in 1989, I was asked to lead the Human Resources Service team, an adventure that lasted until my retirement in 2010, during which time I was supported by a great team.
As representative of the ASRA on the Pension Plan Committee, my role is to ensure that the interests of retired members of the Plan are protected and taken into consideration in the deliberations of the Committee, and ultimately reflected in the recommendations to the Board of Governors.
